for my bottle of bubbly to be popped open at midnight, i choose sofia blanc de blancs. i've given this as a gift i don't know how many times and have yet to taste it myself. i'm a sucker for clever packaging and this has been piquing my interest for years now.

cheers to a new year everyone, my resolution is to treat myself more often. should be easier to keep than, let's say, working out :)

merry, merry

may you be happy as a kid this christmas :)

all that glitters

i've had an affinity for all things glitter ever since barbie became my favorite toy and now that love is rooting itself in fabrics. i can't help but dream of ostentatious draperies, dining chairs, pillows and, i'll say it, headboards! every time i see a new one. i've been admiring these collections by jakob schlaepfer ever since i laid eyes on glinka guel (scroll).

rain, rain...don't go away!

as i'm sure you are aware, it has been raining in l.a. for approximately six days straight, and i could not be more happy about it! forgive me if you live somewhere frigidly cold with, like, snow and freezing temperatures and stuff but christmas doesn't exactly feel like christmas when it's 80 degrees and sunny.

i'd like to take this opportunity to make a plea to mother nature to please keep the rain drops fallin' and santa, if you're listening, a new pair of these would be (in the words of a true southern californian) totally awesome.

dirty 30

today my best bud turns 30, the last of our crew to make the transition. who would have ever thought that would happen? when just a short 12 years ago we were wasting time as office aids in high school, discussing, i'm sure, what to wear the next day and whose turn it was to buy the pizza at lunch while making photo copies of ourselves.

happy birthday to you, my friend. here's to another three decades of fun.

tighten up

it's been approximately seven years since the last time i saw a music video and today a friend of mine brought my attention to this. i was introduced to the black keys by another friend (musical discovery of my own is a thing of the past) a while ago, and love them with a capitol (figurative) l, but it never dawned on me to check out their video. of course it is as refreshingly original as they are. minute 1:20-1:45 kills me.

let's just pretend that whole zales commercial thing never happened.

rudolph, circa 1964

my cousin asked me the other day, "how do i get in the christmas spirit?" i told her, "watch rudolph the red nosed reindeer and you're set."

this is sitting on my dvr, just waiting to be enjoyed, and i think tonight is the night.  one of my most favorite holiday traditions. i mean, how does it get better than burl ives narration and a character named yukon cornelius?!

year end organization

upon preparing my house for the annual holiday festivities last night i realized, this is a perfect time to purge and organize. not only do you get unwanted clutter out of your place but it gives you the opportunity to donate the stuff to people who could benefit from its use. i pulled out shoes, sweaters and pants that i never wear anymore (read: have become a little too plump for) that could really help someone out and made things look neater and tidier in the process!

if you're getting ready for an onslaught of visitors yourself, throw some stuff in a bag and bring it on down to your local shelter, or, send it to your cousin who just started her first year of college and loves to get stuff in the mail. maybe santa will put a little something extra under the tree in recognition of your good will ;)

ok, i admit it

i recently realized that i have a problem. i am obsessed with shelter magazines. i buy them and then save them, with the intention of reading them when i "can sit down and concentrate", and then that moment never seems to come. now that saving has turned into borderline hoarding. i have piles and piles like this all around the house. magazine atop magazine just waiting to be read.

then tonight i saw this and almost had a heart attack. i have purposely kept myself from reading lonny all these months because i feel it deserves my utmost attention and, for whatever reason, that is even more difficult to devote when it involves turning on my computer away from work. and now it's available in print form?!! my god, it's like the holy grail; written, photographed and evenly distributed between the covers of seven very good looking books.

perhaps i'll buy them (right), add them to my piles and be comforted by the fact that should i ever break both my legs and become bed ridden i will be totally and completely content.

ps. don't even get me started on the amount of links i send myself via email and never get back to.

recipe for relaxation

-flowers from your garden (or your neighbors', they won't mind)

-candle from a drug store (it really doesn't need to cost a million dollars)

-hot water
take a bath and relax. tonight. from what i hear, most of you do not indulge yourselves nearly often enough.

free fallin'

if you have never been skydiving, go. and if you're too scared, go anyway.

i went for the first time this past weekend with my mom and dad and it was amazing to say the least. if you want, you can even start out with a trial run in the wind tunnel. as you can see, i am clearly a natural.

can't resist

two things:

1. stopping to take a photo of the ocean every time i go to my client's house in manhattan beach.

2. sending said photo to at least one of my relatives back in the midwest. i mean, seriously, it was 80 degrees here this weekend while the roof of the metrodome caved in there under the weight of the 17 inches of snow THAT FELL IN ONE DAY.

tiniest client

remember when i gave you a peek at my first girl nursery? well i finally got to meet my little client today! she is adorable, as you can see. she's got the prettiest bright red hair i've ever seen and it goes just perfectly with the color scheme :) congrats again, chris and leah, and thanks for letting me be a part of such an exciting time in your lives.

i am obsessed with all things 80's, and christmas music is no exception. without fail, whenever this song comes on the radio i will listen AND sing along to the entire thing with the greatest enthusiasm, and i am not enthusiastic about much.

warning: this may be my first christmas song post but it will not be the last.

i'm not the only one

i hate to be trite (and also break my rule about more than one post per day) but i can't let this day pass without paying homage to the poignant lyrics from john lennon's, 'imagine'.

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

it's hard to imagine people putting aside their differences, their ideologies, their beliefs or their selfishness in the name of peace; but i try and i hope, like john said, i'm not the only one.

o tannenbaum

i like my christmas trees like i like my subway sandwiches, classic ingredients with evenly distributed accoutrement. you won't find a mis-matched ornament on my tree. perhaps this stems from my formal training as a "holiday trimmer" at robinsons-may my first year out of college :)

i'm not big on wish lists but i'd give anything to open this puppy up on christmas morning and proceed to listen to gene autry's "rudolph the red-nosed reindeer" on repeat the entire rest of the day.

london color

WHY is the uk the only place with enough balls to use saturated color in their interiors? any time i see something i could die for, 9 times out of 10 it originated somewhere in or around london.

quick pics en route to home and back over the thanksgiving holiday. the drive may have taken twice as long as it should have but at least i had this to look at along the way.

pretty mess

sometimes a dusty, dirty, unfinished jobsite can be a place of beauty. i needed to remind myself of the good stuff today...and remember to do so more often.

this one's for you, baby!

i just finished my first girl nursery, for my dear friend leah. she's the most beautiful person you could ever imagine and i imagine baby ave, born just two weeks ago, will surely take after her mother. i haven't had the pleasure of meeting her yet but i hope she feels the love we poured into creating this space when she rests her little head here at night.
